On Sunday, May 23,
1982, Elder E. Solomon was inspired to step out on faith and start a new church of worship.
The Refuge
Vision Ministries (RVM) of Houston, Texas conducted its first service at the Ramada Inn
Hotel on Crosstimbers, Sunday, May 30, 1982. Sunday Services were held at the Ramada Inn for three
weeks. During this period of transition, prayer and Bible Classes were held
in various members' homes. The Lord led Sister Solomon to respond to a FOR SALE
advertisement of The Little Olympia Day Care Center on Moline Street and the vision of RVM began to materialize.
Within three weeks, God made a way for the doors of RVM to open and fulfill a long desire of Elder Solomon to have a
church south of downtown.
The saints of God converted RVM from a nursery to a sanctuary, through many hours
of voluntary labor. The people of God made many sacrifices to make RVM a comfortable place of worship.
Deacon and Sister F. McKnight donated the organ and Sister Zephyr Collins and her son Fred, donated a piano. As
the church began to grow, Brother and Sister Pace saw the need to beautify our sanctuary and provided building materials
for internal renovation. And as expected, the saints of RVM worked many long
hours to remodel the church.
In 1988 while reading the scripture, "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles'
doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and prayers." (Acts 2:42), God impressed upon the
heart of Pastor Solomon the vision of sharing in fellowship with His people. After meditating on the concept of
fellowship and considering the Valentine Season, when the expression of love is so
prevalent, a "Fellowship of Love" Banquet Vision was given birth. This very
special fellowship became an annual event and the interwoven theme of this ministry.
The vision of Pastor and First Lady Solomon is to share this "Fellowship of Love" with as many as possible in
this journey of ministry. They have been blessed by God to be very proficient teachers of God's Word, to be helpful,
compassionate and caring people. They have a genuine desire for everyone to learn of Jesus' love,
for saving souls, and for God's people to prosper.
RVM will continue its mission of sharing
the gospel and being a positive influence in our community. The ministry's focus on cultural diversity has resulted in partnerships
with Houston's Open Door Mission, Juan Seguin Elementary School, and Telephone Road Retirement Center. The diverse
ministry of Double Portion Ministries has been added to the Sunday worship schedule at 8:00am. RVM solicits
your prayers as we implement "A Kingdom Building Vision For Our City."
We invite
you to become a part of the church today and a piece of its history tomorrow.
